What’s the best way to learn English?

The batch that graduated

This was a small batch, generally by the time our students come to UKG, parents admit them to bigger schools, so we have a small group of students to work with. These are parents who trust us.

So, this year’s journey began with seven. Six girls and one boy. Girls were talkative and the boy was quiet. Five had been with us, two joined us this year. Both parents had come back to us and we are thankful to them for giving us the opportunity to teach the kids.

We had always seen that kids who had been with us for at least 2-3 years, turned out to be amazing and confident. Teachers know them and they know the way things work by now. The groundwork in the previous years helps immensely.

We have seen it’s the time which is very important. Some of us understand the topic immediately, while some take a long time to understand. It is not important to finish the topic even if the child has not understood. It is going back to that topic again which helps understand it better.

The class was full of noise, but that’s ok. In our school, we don’t shut them. We don’t belong to “the don’t culture” – Don’t talk, don’t stand, don’t question, don’t laugh and the list goes on.

We are privileged, our teachers and support staff are patient and of course, the smaller groups definitely help. In general, we take only about 12-15 in class. The common guideline is to let them talk and participate.

We could see these kids take on roles during various activities – show and tell, rhyme recitation, sports activities, dancing, annual day and the list goes on. They were everywhere participating actively.

Each one of them had a different flavor. Each one had grown so beautifully. We had seen them blossom into a more beautiful and confident version of themselves. They were doing good academically and otherwise. We didn’t want them to look alike. The idea is to retain that individual essence and it worked. The one who loved dancing, danced really well, one who liked speaking, rated well, the one who was in the shell, became very confident.

One of the best things was that the ones who joined this year were also doing well. They became good learners and became a part of the groups instantly.

It was hard to let go of them, but it was time and they were ready to fly. I hope and wish they do really well in formal school. I hope they retain their individuality and grow well.

And now we are ready for the upcoming academic year. This year for the first time we have a full house. Waiting for June to get into the rumble again.

I hope my teachers too have the same experience to share.

Blessed to be a teacher!

Thank you,

Lata,
Team Poshan.
